New Zeeland - Mount Edward Gamay
Mount Edward aims to produce wines that reflect site and season, wines that have a sense of place and individuality. Their style is one of balance, elegance, supple structure and fine texture. To achieve this, they believe winemaking should be restrained, organic, and use minimal intervention. Grapes are sorted by hand, either in the vineyard or at the winery. A variety of winemaking techniques, from the use of natural yeasts to whole bunch fermentation to extended barrel maturation, are employed. They rarely fine or filter, instead looking for wines that have natural balance. There has been no added sulphur for this wine, as it was made as naturally as possible.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of raspberry and blueberries with herbal savoury notes. On the palate, it is a refreshing combination of crunchy, refreshing acidity, bright fruit flavours, with some darker, ripe flavours, and some undertones of savoury complexity. Light tannins hold this wine together, making it both immediately appealing and serious enough for the wine buffs out there. Easily one of the best New Zealand Gamays in any market.
Goes well with slow cooked lamb.
