Plums - Damson
Small, oval, and bursting with character, damson plums are prized for their deep blue-purple skin, golden-yellow flesh, and distinctive flavour. Fresh damsons carry a natural waxy “bloom,” giving them a soft silvery sheen, and their firm flesh clings to the stone - making them a true “clingstone” fruit.
Smaller and drier than many other plums, damsons make up for it with a rich, complex taste: sweet, spicy, slightly sour, with just a hint of bitterness. They’re the ultimate plum for cooking, perfect for turning into jams, chutneys, compotes, or adding depth to baked goods and savoury dishes.
In season from late August through September and into early October - enjoy them at their best while they last.
